Ultrasound Imaging (Ultrasonography / Ultrasound Scanning)

Ultrasound is a non-invasive, painless procedure in which high-frequency sound waves are bounced off internal tissue to obtain images from inside the body. The sound wave echoes are then converted into real time images.

No ionizing radiation (X-ray) is involved in ultrasound imaging, making it an ideal diagnostic tool for patients who are pregnant or who have metal objects inside their bodies. Ultrasound may require that you drink fluids and/or fast before the procedure in order to ensure a clear image is obtained.

Ultrasound Imaging is used to produce diagnostic pelvic, breast, abdominal, and vascular images.
