MEDICAL CENTER OF NEWARK LABORATORY RECEIVES COLLEGE OF AMERICAN PATHOLOGISTS ACCREDITATION

Newark, Ohio – July 25, 2008 – The Medical Center of Newark Laboratory (MCN), Newark, Ohio, has been awarded an accreditation by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), based on the results of a recent on-site inspection.

“We are deeply honored for this national recognition,” says William Pierce, Director of Laboratory Services, who was congratulated recently by CAP officials for the excellence of services MCN is providing to the community.

MCN is a general hospital offering inpatient and outpatient medical and surgical care in over 20 medical specialties. The facility includes 33 inpatient beds, imaging, laboratory, inpatient pharmacy, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, pre-admission testing, and 24/7 physician coverage.

The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960s, is recognized by the federal government as being equal to, or more stringent than, the government’s own inspection program. During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years.

CAP inspectors also examine the qualifications of the entire staff, the laboratory’s equipment, facilities, safety program, and record, as well as the overall management of the laboratory. This exacting and meticulous inspection program is specifically designed to ensure the highest standard of care for laboratory patients.
