Our History

The Medical Center of Newark is an expansion of the former Newark Surgery Center and former Newark Health Imaging.

The $19.5 million expansion began in December 2006 in direct response to Licking County community demand. Since it first opened 10 years ago, the Surgery Center increased its volume significantly, from 1,177 procedures performed in 1998, to 7,629 in 2005. But surveys indicated that 50% of Licking County residents still chose to seek medical treatment outside of the county because they didn’t have a choice for inpatient care.

We heard you and we listened, by bringing this best-in-class facility to Licking County, offering residents another option closer to home.

MCN was created and designed by local physicians to be a personalized patient-focused facility. From the beginning, the goal of the expansion has been to provide the highest quality medical treatment in the most efficient manner, while reducing waiting time and maximizing comfort for patients and visitors.
