An Overview

The anesthesiologists at the Medical Center of Newark (MCN) offer high-quality, compassionate, anesthetic care. Assisted by respiratory therapists, nurse anesthetists, MCN’s anesthesiologists care for thousands of patients each year.

MCN’s anesthesiologists administer different types of anesthesia, depending on the type of surgery. For example, some procedures require sedation and local anesthetic at the surgery site, while many surgeries must be performed while patients are completely anesthetized – unconscious and unaware of pain.

Your MCN anesthesiologist – who specializes in anesthetic administration, pain relief, and pre- and post-operative care – will work with you to determine the type of anesthesia best suited to your particular needs, and the state of your health. During surgery, your anesthesiologist will monitor your vital organ functioning such as blood pressure, breathing, and blood-oxygen saturation, and your heart rate.

MCN’s Anesthesiologists provides the following specialized services:

• Administration of anesthesia for the entire surgical spectrum
• Pre-operative consultation
• Pre-admissions testing anesthetic evaluation
• Pain management prior to and immediately after surgery
• Types of anesthesia include:
  • General
  • Regional or numbing a specific area of the body

MCN Referral Process

All patients access the Medical Center of Newark through a direct referral or direct admission from their personal physician. Your personal physician or specialist must be a member of the MCN medical staff or refer you through an MCN hospitalist physician for inpatient or outpatient care. Please contact your physician if you wish to have services provided at MCN.

Any Central Ohio physician may refer you to Medical Center of Newark for laboratory tests, diagnostic imaging, pre-admissions testing or pulmonary function testing. Just tell your physician you would like to come to Medical Center of Newark.
