After Your Procedure
You will be taken to the recovery room after your surgery. Your stay in recovery depends on the nature of your procedure, and how you are feeling. Once you are checked into the recovery room, your family and friends will be brought back to stay with you.
If your stay is an outpatient procedure, your recovery nurse will assist you in getting dressed, and will give you and your family members discharge instructions when you are ready to go.
Anesthesia and medications will slow your reflexes, may make you feel drowsy, and could affect your ability to remember. Therefore, your discharge instructions will be reviewed with the responsible adult accompanying you. If this is a concern, please contact us prior to your procedure. Also, driving will be dangerous and you MUST arrange for a ride home. DO NOT use public transportation.
Arrange to have a responsible adult stay with you 24 hours after your surgery due to the anesthetic given during your procedure. If this is going to be a problem, please let us know before your procedure and we will help in any way we can.
If you are being admitted to the hospital, your nurse will assist you to your room and help you get settled. You will have a private phone number to give to your family and friends. When you are in your room, you will find a complete guide to help you make your stay as pleasant as possible. Before going home, you will be given a complete list of post-operative instructions to follow. The discharge nurse will review these instructions with you and answer any questions you may have. If you are directly admitted to MCN as an inpatient, once you get settled in your room, you will find detailed information about your inpatient stay in our Inpatient Guide located in every room.
